Stokely Carmichael
Social Change Movement: Black Rights
Purpose and drive for social change:
Stokely Carmichael joined his parents in America at age eleven. From then on he experienced first hand the mistreatment of blacks in America. This was the motivation behind his movement. He was appalled at the beatings and murders of his fellow African-Americans in the streets. At the sub-standard housing and lack of employment opportunities for the black people in America. He was shocked at the trails where the fate of a black person rested in the hands of a jury full of white people. And he hated the idea of black people being enlisted to fight for a country that would not give them unalienable rights.
Occupation:
"Honorary" Prime minister of the Black Panthers

Also:
Was Chairman of the SNCC until stepping down in 1967. It is sad he witnessed policemen proding a black man in the street with a cattle rod and changed his view on using violence to get his point across. This is when he joined the Black Panther Party
He eventually left the Panthers due to disagreements over allowing white-activists to assist in the black rights movement.
